2026 Fantasy Outlook
McGreevy made a handful of spot starts for the Cardinals in the first half of the 2025 season before finally being given a regular role in the rotation after the All-Star break. The results were mostly underwhelming. McGreevy ranked in the 93rd percentile with a 5.0 percent walk rate and the 76th percentile with a 48 percent groundball rate, but he managed a woeful 14.5 percent strikeout rate and a below-average 4.42 ERA over 95.2 innings. The 25-year-old is probably never going to be much of a bat misser, but he fanned right around a batter per inning at Triple-A Memphis over the last two seasons, so there's some hope he won't be a total zero in that area like he was in 2025. McGreevy is well suited for a Cardinals team that plays in a pitcher-friendly park and has a good defense behind him, but the profile as currently constructed isn't going to produce much fantasy value. Settles in after early homers
McGreevy did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two over five innings.
Analysis
McGreevy was tagged for solo homers in each of the first two innings -- first by Jose Ramirez and then by Daniel Schneemann -- but settled in well after the rocky start. He retired nine of the final 11 batters he faced to end the day with a solid overall line, although he generated just 21 combined called and swinging strikes on 87 pitches. Despite McGreevy's strong start to the season, allowing only six runs across 21.2 innings, his 5.68 xERA points to potential regression moving forward. The 25-year-old will face a tougher test in his next scheduled outing against Miami early next week.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Perhaps just betting on college pitchers with elite control and modest stuff in the draft is the way to go. McGreevy, whom the Cardinals nabbed with the 18th overall pick in 2021, had a 2.6 percent walk rate as a junior for UC Santa Barbara that year. Three years later, he made his big-league debut this past July and made another three starts in September and finished with a 2.3 percent walk rate in 23 MLB innings. McGreevy, a 6-foot-4 righty with a 93-mph fastball, generated groundballs at a 62.5 percent clip in his first four big-league starts, and having Masyn Winn and Nolan Arenado behind him helped consistently translate those groundballs into outs. He logged unsustainably low ratios (1.96 ERA, 0.78 WHIP), but even when those ratios normalize, McGreevy should still be among the better rookie pitchers in those categories. While he does have a plus slider, McGreevy's game is more about generating weak contact than racking up strikeouts on a per-start basis. However, after logging 173 total innings last year, he could still finish near the top of the rookie leaderboard in Ks with a full season in the big-league rotation.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Chance to start?
McGreevy could slot into St. Louis' rotation next week after Lance Lynn was placed on the injured list Wednesday due to knee inflammation, per Katie Woo of The Athletic.
Analysis
McGreevy was called up in a corresponding move Wednesday and will immediately be available out of the bullpen, but it would make sense for the Cardinals to give him a look in the rotation since they're effectively out of the playoff hunt. The 24-year-old made his MLB debut July 31 against Texas and allowed just one run on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk over seven innings, and he should have a chance to secure a spot in the big-league rotation during spring training.
