2026 Fantasy Outlook
Ozuna fell off in dramatic fashion with Atlanta in 2025 after finishing fourth in the NL MVP voting the year prior. His home-run total fell from 39 to 21 while his OPS dipped from .925 to .756. It was revealed in June that Ozuna was playing through a hip injury that he would have to manage the rest of the way. He endured a couple of long power outages, including a 21-game drought before the break and a 32-game homerless stretch in the second half. To his credit, Ozuna increased his walk rate to a career-high 15.9%, and he was still above league average by most offensive measures. A free agent, Ozuna should have no problem finding steady at-bats, even as a declining 35-year-old designated hitter. His recent track record suggests he should bounce back, though the real cliff isn't far off in the distance. Read Past Outlooks
Lands $12 million deal with Pirates
The Pirates signed Ozuna to a one-year, $10.5 million contract Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The deal includes a $16 million mutual option or $1.5 million buyout for 2027.
Analysis
Ozuna produced a disappointing .232/.355/.400 batting line with 21 home runs over 145 games for Atlanta in 2025. However, a nagging hip injury was likely at least partly to blame, and he is just a year removed from a 39-homer season. Ozuna will slide into the designated hitter role in Pittsburgh, likely pushing Ryan O'Hearn to left field and Jake Mangum to a fourth outfielder role.

Ozuna had a resurgence in 2023 after two straight down years, and he was even better last season as he finished with 39 homers and a .302/.378/.546 slash line while playing in all 162 games for the first time in his career. His 154 wRC+ is the second-best mark of his career, trailing only the shortened 2020 campaign. He exclusively played designated hitter and is unlikely to see the outfield during 2025 in his age-34 season. Ozuna was the steadying force in an underwhelming and injury-plagued Atlanta offense last year, but there should be better support and more opportunities for counting stats in 2025. The veteran slugger has had some boom-or-bust tendencies in the past but has been one of the best hitters in baseball over the past two seasons, so it may be time to leave those reservations in the rearview mirror.

Interest from Pirates
Ozuna is among the players the Pirates have interest in, Katie Woo and Will Sammon of The Athletic report.
Analysis
Ozuna isn't a perfect fit for the Pirates' roster, as his addition would mean Ryan O'Hearn having to play more in the field, but the club nonetheless could use an offensive jolt. The 35-year-old Ozuna stumbled to a .755 OPS in 2025 with Atlanta while playing through a hip injury for much of the year. With health, he could bounce back in 2026.
