2026 Fantasy Outlook
Signed to a six-year, $113 million contract in December of 2023, Lee suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder as a rookie, which ended his first season in the states after 37 games. He enjoyed better luck on the health front in his sophomore season with the Giants, totaling 150 games and 617 plate appearances in 2025. His bat-to-ball ability carried him to an above-average offensive season by wRC+, though Lee provided little in terms of power or speed, totaling eight homers and 10 steals. His barrel rate and average exit velocity both ranked in the bottom 10 percent of the league, and Lee will likely struggle to tap into more than gap power as a lefty slapping the ball into Triples Alley at Oracle Park. The contact rate and swing decisions are a big plus, but the left-on-left splits and mediocre defensive marks leave some lingering uncertainty regarding his role long term. Read Past Outlooks

Analysis
Lee notched his second three-hit game of the season and fourth multi-hit game over the last week. The 27-year-old clinched the latter of those two feats Thursday with an RBI single as part of the three-run seventh inning that accounted for the only offense of the game. Across the last six contests, Lee has gone 10-for-23 (.435 batting average) with three doubles, a home run and three RBI while striking out just twice.

Stat Review
How does Jung Hoo Lee compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

2024
Lee wants a do-over of his first season in the states. After signing a six-year, $113 million contract with the Giants last offseason, Lee lasted only 37 games before requiring season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The 26-year-old offered a mixed bag before getting hurt. The elite contact ability carried over from the KBO, with Lee striking out at a microscopic 8.2 percent rate. The double-digit walk rate he had in Korea did not immediately translate, as he drew free passes at just a 6.3 percent clip. Just two home runs for Lee was disappointing, but a 41.8 percent hard-hit rate and a 40-point gap between his xwOBA (.324) and actual wOBA (.284) suggest he showed more thump than the bottom line numbers indicate. Lee also had a sprint speed in the 79th percentile, although he was never much of a base stealer in the KBO. Oracle Park won't do the left-handed hitting Lee any favors, but he's expected to be ready to roll on Opening Day and a return to the leadoff spot awaits.
Lee signed a six-year, $113 million deal with the Giants in December after seven excellent seasons in Korea. Top of the scale contact ability carries his profile and helped him to a Rookie of the Year, an MVP and a lifetime .340 batting average. He's recorded a strikeout rate of 7.6 percent or better for five consecutive seasons, walking more than he struck out in each of those campaigns. Lee's strikeout rate could double upon his move to MLB and he'd still probably hit for a good average. The question is what else he'll do. Lee should help the Giants out with good outfield defense, and he should pitch in on the basepaths, though his 10.5 steals per 600 plate appearances hardly paint him as a burner. The main issue is that Lee's power may be almost non-existent. He did manage 23 homers in 2022 but finished with a single-digit total five times. He was consistently among the KBO leaders in doubles, but reports on his exit velocity data are poor, so there may not be many more homers coming. He'll also have to prove his health after a broken ankle cost him half of last season, though his contract seemingly indicates the Giants have little concerns on that front.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Padres could pounce
OFFree Agent
December 7, 2023
Lee is "high on the Padres' wish list," Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Feinsand was told by one source that a deal between the two parties "could come together quickly" now that the Padres have freed up salary with Juan Soto and Trent Grisham off the roster. San Diego is suddenly in desperate need of outfield help following the deal, and it sounds like Lee could be its top target. The 25-year-old Korean import posted a .340/.407/.491 slash line during his seven years in the KBO. Lee has also piqued the interest of the Mets and Giants.
