2026 Fantasy Outlook
Quintana opened the season at Triple-A Nashville after signing with the Brewers in early May, then joined Milwaukee's rotation after two weeks once he was fully stretched out. He finished with 24 starts, working around an early IL stint for a shoulder issue and a late-season absence due to a left calf strain. For the fourth straight year, the veteran left-hander outperformed his peripherals, posting an ERA well below its estimators. His strikeout rate declined for the fifth consecutive season, while his walk rate rose for the third year in a row. Even so, Quintana continued to keep the ball in the yard, limiting damage despite the erosion in skills. Relying on this profile is risky, as pitchers often appear lucky, until they're not. Entering his age-37 season, Quintana is due a visit from the regression monster. Read Past Outlooks
Tagged with loss Wednesday
Quintana (0-1) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against the Astros after allowing three runs on three hits and four walks across 3.2 innings. He struck out one.
Analysis
Quintana gave up two runs in the first inning before allowing a solo homer to Yordan Alvarez in the third. Quintana hasn't had encouraging results to open the season, allowing five runs on seven hits while posting a subpar 3:8 K:BB over eight innings in two outings. The fact that both outings have been outside the confines of Coors Field paints them in an even more worrisome light, and he's tentatively scheduled to make his next start at home next week against the Dodgers.

Quintana provided the Mets with needed innings, then Lady Luck did her part. The veteran lefty logged 170.1 frames, his most since 2019. His 3.75 ERA was pegged more than half a run too low by its estimators. Quintana's 10.0 K-BB percentage was his lowest since his rookie season, way back in 2012. A .263 BABIP (despite being a groundball pitcher) and a 78.2 percent left-on-base mark rescued his ratios. Three straight seasons with a sub-4.00 will draw attention, fantasy and otherwise, but Quintana's expected ERA is over 4.00, landing around the league average. League average can be useful, but a low strikeout rate subjects Quintana to variance, along with lowering his fantasy production. There will be favorable scenarios to stream the southpaw, just don't be fooled by his deflated ERA in recent seasons.

Reunion in Pittsburgh?
John Perrotto of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports that the Pirates could have interest in signing Quintana.
Analysis
The 37-year-old southpaw delivered another season as a quality back-end starter in 2025, making 24 regular-season starts for the Brewers and finishing with a 3.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 89:50 K:BB over 131.2 innings. Pittsburgh's rotation is heavy with right-handers, and Quintana could help bring some balance to the group. He spent the first half of the 2022 campaign with the Pirates before being traded to the Cardinals at the summer deadline.
