Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
It is now make or break time for Encarnacion, just a season after he broke down multiple times. Encarnacion lost six weeks to a hamstring, multiple months to a left hand fracture, as well as time lost to a strained oblique. He was able to get just 161 plate appearances between Triple-A and the big league club around his injuries. He hit .274/.378/.464 while in Triple-A but that success did not follow him to the big league roster in a short 19-game sample size. The draw with Encarnacion is he makes some of the hardest contact in baseball, when he is healthy and actually makes contact. After all, this is a player who struck out 200 times in a minor league season in 2023 yet became just the second player, along with Glenallen Hill, to reach the majors despite striking out 200 times in a minor league season. Encarnacion is now out of options but is going to have to hit his way onto the San Francisco roster this spring to stick. Read Past Outlooks

2023
The Giants signed Encarnacion away from the Mexican League last May and then called him up to the majors in August after he posted a 1.054 OPS with 10 home runs in just 33 games with Triple-A Sacramento. Encarnacion offered a mixed bag during his brief 35-game stint in San Francisco. He had just a 34:5 K:BB in 119 plate appearances, but the 27-year-old popped five homers and put up some eye-popping Statcast numbers with a 58.8 percent hard-hit rate, 95 mph average exit velocity and 15 percent barrel rate. It's pretty clear that the raw pop is there with Encarnacion, who has 50 home runs in 223 career games at the Triple-A level. The question is whether he'll be able to make enough contact to get to it, as he also struck out at a 33.6 percent clip at Triple-A. If you squint you could see a deep-league power sleeper here, but it's probably likelier that Encarnacion never gets a long-term look in the big leagues.
