2026 Fantasy Outlook
A torn labrum at the beginning of the 2024 season sidelined Quero until May 2025, when he completed a rehab assignment in rookie ball before joining the Triple-A lineup in June. Quero has always been a classic case of a catcher who is a much better real-life prospect than fantasy one, as his stellar defense while being young for his levels has stood out to scouts. He doesn't shine on offense, but he's been an above-average hitter in each league he's played in while maintaining strikeout rates below 20 percent at every stop and below 15 percent at every stop since 2024. Given that he was a 22-year-old at Triple-A in his first year back from shoulder surgery, Quero's .255/.336/.412 slash line and 101 wRC+ in 58 games are respectable marks. Intriguingly, Quero hit all six of his Triple-A homers over his final 35 games, slugging .484 with a 15.3 percent strikeout rate and 10 percent walk rate over that stretch. William Contreras, who is under club control through 2027, will get as much work as he can handle again in 2026, but Quero appears ready to spend the whole year working as his backup in the big leagues. Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Quero suffered a torn labrum in Triple-A Nashville's season opener and missed the rest of 2024, but he's still just 22 years old and is one of Milwaukee's top prospects. The organization isn't in need of catching help with William Contreras establishing himself as arguably the best catcher in baseball, so a regular role likely isn't on the immediate horizon. Quero appeared in 90 games for Double-A Biloxi in 2023 and clubbed 16 homers with a .783 OPS, as his bat has caught up with his excellent defense as he's matured. He could make his MLB debut in 2025 if Contreras or backup Eric Haase deal with any significant injuries, and Quero's ability behind the plate could help him stick in the majors even if he struggles early versus big-league pitching.
One of the best defensive catching prospects in the minors, Quero showed in his age-20 season that he might have a promising offensive future as well. He slashed .262/.339/.440 with 16 home runs, five steals and a 17.8 percent strikeout rate as the third-youngest qualified hitter in the Southern League, which is an even more impressive feat when considering the position he plays. The Brewers already have an excellent catcher in William Contreras, so Quero's playing time could be capped a bit in 2025 and 2026, but his defense will be too good for him to be stuck as a No. 2 option for more than a year or two. Given how cheap the Brewers are, they could trade Contreras in the middle of his prime and hand the keys to Quero.
