                2025 Fantasy Outlook

Junis' time in the NL Central last season was a success, as he posted a 2.69 ERA in 24 appearances (six starts) between Milwaukee and Cincinnati. A shoulder impingement put him on the shelf early on, and in a brutal stroke of bad luck, Junis was hit in the head by a batted ball during batting practice while on the mend. After the Brewers traded him in order to land Frankie Montas, Junis added 41 high-quality innings for the Reds, ultimately leading him to decline his $8 million mutual option for 2025. Perhaps miscast earlier in his career with the Royals, Junis has seemingly found his niche in recent seasons as a swingman/long reliever. That's not usually the most fantasy-friendly role, but there are lesser arms that will go in the endgame of deep leagues. Junis allowed one hit and struck out one over two scoreless innings in Monday's 11-1 loss to the Twins.
                  Analysis
Junis, who entered after starter Gavin Williams lasted just two innings, took a comebacker off his left quad in the third inning. He was down for a brief time while trainers assessed the right-hander and was deemed fit to continue. He got out of that inning and set down the side in order in the fourth. Junis has been a useful arm out of the bullpen, posting a 1.93 ERA with just one walk over 14 innings.

San Francisco has a strong track record of taking pitching castoffs from other organizations and making them into useful assets. In the case of Junis, it was almost an extreme makeover because Kansas City's pitching development did little to make Junis better and even Junis's first year with the Giants could only get so much out of him as a starter. The club decided to turn Junis into a reliever in 2023 and he rewarded them and NL Only fantasy managers with a 20.4% K-BB% along with 96 strikeouts in 86 innings and 4 wins. The righty's best pitch has always been his slider, so the Giants encouraged him to spin it early and often, and he did so throwing it 62.5% of the time. It is a good thing he did too because his sinker was safely put into play 42% of the time and his changeup 27% of the time. Junis is at his best in a White Castle Special of heavy sliders, but the lack of an effective second pitch pigeonholes his role in the pen.
