                2025 Fantasy Outlook

Hamilton has been an effective reliever for the Yankees when healthy - he sports a 3.10 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 110:40 K:BB over 95.2 innings since joining New York in 2023 - but injuries continue to plague the 29-year-old. After dealing with two separate groin strains during the 2023 campaign, Hamilton missed extended time during the 2024 regular season due to a lat strain and concussion. Furthermore, he injured his calf during last year's ALCS and was ineligible to return for the World Series. While durability is a major concern, there's enough within Hamilton's profile to keep him on AL-only and deep league radars. Among relief pitchers with 30-plus innings last season, Hamilton's 17.7 percent swinging strike rate was a top-10 mark, suggesting he has the upside to produce a 30-plus percent strikeout rate. If healthy this spring, the right-hander will compete for middle relief duties. Read Past Outlooks

                  Optioned to minors
Hamilton was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.
                  Analysis
Hamilton had been fairly effective for the first three months of the season, but his ERA ballooned to 6.10 across 10.1 innings in July. He could contribute in the majors again in 2025, though he'll likely be limited to low leverage given New York's stacked bullpen.

        2024 Fantasy Outlook

Hamilton, who has been with six different organizations since he was drafted in the 11th round by the White Sox in 2016, appears to have finally found a home with the Yankees. After inking a minor-league deal with New York last February, the 28-year-old stuck around after spring training and earned a quick promotion to the big leagues in early April. The right-hander made 39 appearances, 22 of which were multi-inning outings, while showcasing his impressive slider (.156 BA, 42.5 percent whiff) en route to a 2.64 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 69:26 K:BB ratio over 58 innings. Most of Hamilton's Statcast metrics were well above average save for his 10.9 percent walk rate (18th percentile), but his breakout season was halted by a two separate groin strains that required trips to the IL. If healthy, Hamilton figures to reprise his multi-inning relief role in 2024, while also serving as an occasional opener.

The skipper also added that there are "five guys" he could trust with the role. It's not a surprise to hear Hamilton made the list, as he picked up his first career save Saturday against the Rays and boasts a 1.42 ERA and 23:7 K:BB over 19 innings this season. Clay Holmes and Michael King are the other two relievers to have recorded saves for the Yankees this season.
