2026 Fantasy Outlook
Valera was first added to the Guardians' 40-man roster back in November 2021 but didn't reach the big leagues until September 2025. Injuries hampered his development, and he had been non-tendered by Cleveland last winter before being re-signed to a minor-league contract. After making his way back from patellar tendon surgery, Valera slashed .255/.346/.457 with three home runs in 28 games with Triple-A Columbus to earn a big-league promotion. The 25-year-old fared well enough down the stretch for the Guardians that he started in right field and batted second in both of their games versus righties in the wild-card series against the Tigers. The left-handed-hitting Valera will compete for reps against right-handers in 2026. Read Past Outlooks
Makes second straight start
Valera started in left field and went 1-for-2 with a double in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis
Valera started a second consecutive game since being activated off the injured list Monday. Both starts have come against right-handers, and the outfielder was pinch hit for in the seventh inning of Wednesday's contest when he was about to face a left-hander. Valera is 2-for-6 with a pair of doubles and RBI in his two games.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2019
A generous outlook would be that 2023 was a lost season for Valera and he'll rebound this year. The 23-year-old outfielder missed time with wrist and hamstring injuries and also served a six-game suspension from an altercation with an opposing player at Triple-A. He once seemed poised to eventually be a regular in Cleveland's outfield, but that's looking less likely after he slashed .211/.343/.375 as an age-appropriate hitter in the International League. Valera was once a center fielder, but he now seems best suited for left field, especially on the defense-focused Guardians. That means he'll need to rake, and he does still have above-average raw power and he's logged walk rates north of 12 percent at every stop since the beginning of the 2022 season and for the majority of his professional career. We'll give him one more year as a legitimate prospect, but another underwhelming year at the dish against Triple-A pitching could cost him his spot on Cleveland's 40-man roster.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Struggling at Triple-A
Valera owns a .208 batting average with just three home runs through 246 Triple-A plate appearances this season.
Analysis
Valera has stolen only one base as well, and he's never exceeded 10 stolen bases across five years in the minors. With speed a non-factor in his prospect profile, Valera rebounding at the dish is a critical next step. The 22-year-old had his right hamate bone removed last offseason, which could be a tough factor to overcome given his prolonged hitting struggles.
