                2025 Fantasy Outlook

Bautista was sidelined for the entire 2024 campaign, but he began throwing off the mound in August and will be 16 months removed from Tommy John surgery by February. The 6-foot-5 hurler is not expected to have any restrictions at the start of spring training and as long as he looks good during Grapefruit League play, he should regain the closer role for Baltimore heading into 2025. "The Mountain" emerged as one of the top closers in the game during the 2023 season, posting 33 saves with a 1.48 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over 61 innings with a 46.4 percent strikeout rate that was tops among qualified relievers. Achieving those types of numbers might be a tall order coming off a major injury, especially since Bautista has a 10 percent walk rate for his career. Expect some regression, but don't wait too long to click his name in the draft room, as his upside warrants a top-5 selection among closers. Shifted to 60-day injured list
The Orioles transferred Bautista (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Friday.
                  Analysis
The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster. Bautista will be sidelined until at least late next season following surgery earlier this week to repair a torn labrum and torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder.

    2024
				2023
Bautista is expected to miss the entire 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in October. Prior to the injury, which he suffered in late-August, "The Mountain" had arguably emerged as MLB's top closer. Bautista compiled a 1.48 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 110:26 K:BB ratio over 61 innings to go along with 33 saves. This mark was still good for 3rd in the American League despite Bautista missing the last month and change of the season. His 46.4% strikeout percentage was tops among qualified relievers, while his 4.45 WPA and 2.03 gmLI were 2nd and 5th, respectively. Assuming Bautista avoids any setbacks in his recovery, look for him to return for spring training in 2025.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

                  Trade seen as unlikely
The Orioles are listening to trade inquiries regarding Bautista but are unlikely to deal the reliever, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
                  Analysis
Bautista has pitched well in his first year back from Tommy John surgery, posting a 2.41 ERA and 48:20 K:BB over 33.2 innings while notching 18 saves. However, he has not been as dominant as he was pre-surgery, and if the Orioles are convinced he will eventually get back there, now would not be the opportune time to sell him. Bautista is also under team control for two additional seasons, and Baltimore is aiming to return to contention in 2026.
