2026 Fantasy Outlook
After missing the entire 2024 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery, Jameson was back to full health for the start of the 2025 season, but was limited to just three appearances for Arizona and 16 in the minors. Unfortunately, the hard-throwing righty was shut down in late June when he developed a bone fragment chip in his surgically repaired elbow. The 28-year-old didn't return to action before the end of the minor-league season, but managed to avoid another procedure on his elbow. Jameson appears to be in line for a normal offseason following his recent return to action in the Arizona Fall League. Given he maintains a spot on Arizona's 40-man roster, Jameson is expected to compete for a bullpen role this spring. With an upper-90's fastball, strikeout upside and a high groundball rate, he fits the typical closer profile, but whether that will translate to save chances with the D'Backs will largely depend on his health and performance. The Diamondbacks optioned Jameson to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Analysis
After being limited to 17 total innings between three levels in 2025 while contending with elbow problems, Jameson has been healthy for spring training but didn't pitch well enough to win a spot in the Opening Day bullpen. He'll head to Reno after turning in an 8.44 ERA, 2.44 WHIP and 5:5 K:BB in 5.1 innings over five Cactus League appearances.

2023
We haven't seen Jameson on a major-league mound since July of 2023, as he eventually required Tommy John surgery in September of that year. The expectation is that he will be ready to roll on Opening Day of this season, and the Diamondbacks plan for him to operate in a relief role. Jameson came up through the minors and broke into the majors as a starter, but he had been pitching in relief before his elbow blew out and was having success. Prior to the injury, Jameson reached the upper-90s with his fastball with regularity while also showcasing a wipeout slider. He could be a potential closer if things break right, but there are unknowns with Jameson in 2025 in regard to how his stuff bounces back from surgery and what his usage will look like.
Jameson, coming off an impressive four-start run late in 2022, competed for a starting job during Spring Training but lost out to Ryne Nelson and began 2023 as a multi-inning reliever in the majors. He pitched as both a starter and reliever, but it was out of the bullpen where Jameson popped, posting a 2.81 ERA over 32 relief innings. The right-hander, who was sent down to the minors in May, rediscovered his slider there and shined out of the bullpen after being recalled. Everything changed in July, when he felt something in his forearm, which eventually turned out to be a ligament in his elbow. Jameson put off surgery, hoping to pitch again, but the right-hander was eventually shut down and underwent Tommy John surgery in September. As such, he's unlikely to pitch in 2024.
Jameson broke out as a high-upside starting pitching prospect in 2021, doing his best to shelve reliever concerns that stemmed from his stature (6-foot, 165 pounds) and control. However in 2022, he had to navigate extreme hitter's parks in Amarillo, Reno and the Pacific Coast League in general. He quickly forced a promotion from Double-A, but the PCL got the better of him over the span of 22 starts. It's not like he righted the ship prior to his MLB promotion -- he gave up 17 earned runs in his final 15.2 innings (three starts) for Reno. However, he was closer to the pitcher he was at Double-A against big-league hitters, going at least five innings in all four starts while tallying a 1.48 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 24:7 K:BB in 24.1 innings. Jameson primarily threw his four-seamer, two-seamer and slider in the big leagues, also mixing in a changeup and curveball. The two mid-90s fastballs (can touch 97 mph) and mid-80s slider were his strikeout weapons, and while he did well in a small sample against lefty hitters in the majors, opposite-handed hitters logged a .933 OPS against him in the minors (.701 OPS against RHB). He might not have the truly dominant fastball/slider combo to get by without an offspeed pitch that neutralizes lefties, but the Diamondbacks will give him every chance to develop as a big-league starter in 2023.
