Acquired from the Astros at the 2022 trade deadline, McDermott made his major-league debut in 2024 with a spot start for the Orioles shortly after the All-Star break. Most of his season was spent at Triple-A Norfolk, where he held a 3.78 ERA with 144 strikeouts but also 60 walks over an even 100 innings. McDermott has fanned batters at a robust 33.7 clip during his time in the minors, but that's been undermined somewhat by a 13.8 percent walk rate. The 26-year-old also missed much of the second half last season with a shoulder problem, although he finished the year healthy. McDermott has the stuff to be at least a mid-rotation starter but will need to throw more strikes before the Orioles can trust him with a rotation spot. Read Past Outlooks

The Orioles haven't announced a starting pitcher for Tuesday's game in Milwaukee, and McDermott is one of the leading candidates to pitch after the club designated veteran Kyle Gibson for assignment Sunday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
