2026 Fantasy Outlook
Whisenhunt began the season with Triple-A Sacramento and was called up just after the break to make his major league debut. He split the second half between the majors and minors, including a visit to the 15-day IL for a sore back. On the farm, Whisenhunt improved his walk rate from the previous season, but at the cost of fewer strikeouts. Command and control issues resurfaced during his brief MLB stint, as he walked 16 and surrendered six home runs in only 23.1 innings. Whisenhunt's three-pitch repertoire is suitable for both starting and relieving roles. The Giants have several candidates for the back end of their rotation, so Whisenhunt's pathway of least resistance to the majors is as a long reliever/swingman; however, he needs to demonstrate better control and command in spring training. Giants' pitchers are always appealing at home. Read Past Outlooks
Struggles in spring game
Whisenhunt logged a blown save in Monday's 6-5 Cactus League win over the White Sox, allowing four earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out two across 1.2 innings.
Analysis
Whisenhunt entered in the third inning and surrendered two singles and a double that led to two runs. He then allowed a walk and two doubles before being pulled in the fourth, as the White Sox took a 4-3 lead. On a more positive note, the southpaw averaged 95.6 mph on his four-seamer, a significant uptick from his average of 92.6 mph in 2025. The 25-year-old could compete for a spot in the bullpen ahead of Opening Day, but it wouldn't be surprising if he begins the season in Triple-A Sacramento's rotation. He recorded a 5.01 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 16:12 K:BB while giving up six long balls across 23.1 innings in five starts for San Francisco last season.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Control woes continue to plague the Giants' top pitching prospect in 2024. Whisenhunt started 25 games for Triple-A Sacramento, registering an impressive 28.4 percent strikeout rate, but he also logged a generous 11.3 percent walk rate. The 24-year-old southpaw throws a 93-mph sinker, cutter, slider and change-up (which is his best pitch). Metrics like BABIP are unreliable in the Pacific Coast League, but the .369 mark Whisenhunt recorded last season is inflated. The lefty will likely open the year back with the River Cats, ostensibly working on throwing strikes. Last year, 63.7 percent of his pitches were strikes, but since the major league average was 64.3 percent, a modest improvement could put him in the mix for a rotation spot with the Giants. Considering only Logan Webb has a reliable track record, Whisenhunt could force the issue.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Possible trade chip
According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, Whisenhunt's name has come up in trade talks between the Cardinals and Giants.
Analysis
The left-hander would potentially be the trade return for Brendan Donovan, who is being shopped by St. Louis this offseason. Whisenhunt received his first taste of the big leagues in 2025 and had a 5.01 ERA, and his 4.43 ERA at Triple-A also left something to be desired.
