Cade Povich

Cade Povich

26-Year-Old PitcherSP
Baltimore Orioles AAA
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Povich logged 112.1 innings and struck out 118 batters for the Orioles last season, but he never was able to settle into a consistent groove. The left-hander made 20 starts and two bulk relief appearances but covered six innings on just four occasions, and he never had a month where his ERA was lower than 4.61. Povich is a 25-year-old lefty who has put up a 30.4 percent strikeout rate in the minors, and that in and of itself makes him intriguing. However, while he throws a wide array of pitches, none of them really stand out in their current form. Some tweaks here are required before Povich can become a reliable fantasy asset. The Orioles optioned Povich to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
Analysis
Povich was dialed in in a spot start Sunday against the Giants, tossing 6.2 innings of one-run ball while notching five strikeouts. However, with Dean Kremer joining the Orioles' rotation there was no longer a spot for Povich, who will stay stretched out as a member of Norfolk's starting five.

Stat Review
How does Cade Povich compare to other starting pitchers?
This section compares his stats with all starting pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 120 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 120 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
After being called up in June, Povich initially struggled against major-league hitters, going 1-7 with a 6.58 ERA over his first 11 starts. The lefty was demoted by the Orioles several times before finding his groove in September when he posted a 2.60 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB over 27.2 innings. Povich, a third-round pick in 2021, lacks high-end velocity but throws the kitchen sink. His minor-league numbers hint at room for growth with his strikeout rate and the team context is favorable -- even as the left-field wall in Baltimore is moving in. His performance over the final month might give him the inside track for one of the final rotation spots, but Povich will have to solidify his role in spring training.
While Povich lacks a truly special pitch, the 6-foot-3 lefty throws four or five quality pitches and showed improved control early this year in a return to Triple-A as a 24-year-old. He had a 14.7 percent walk rate in 10 starts at Triple-A last year and sports a 9.1 percent walk rate through 11 starts in 2024. This significant improvement suggests Povich should be a good bet to make it as a starter long term, and he could be given that first opportunity before the All-Star break. He throws his 91-94 mph four-seamer over 40 percent of the time while mixing in his cutter, changeup, sweeper and curveball. It seemed like Chayce McDermott and Povich each had a similar chance of breaking through as quality starters for the Orioles this year, but McDermott's control has regressed while the younger Povich's has improved, so Povich is currently the top pitcher in the system to stash.

Plenty of rotation competition
PBaltimore Orioles  AAA
December 31, 2025
Povich could have a hard time earning a spot in Baltimore's Opening Day rotation with the club acquiring Shane Baz and Zach Eflin this winter.
Analysis
Povich seemed to have a decent chance of earning a rotation spot at the start of the offseason, but the Orioles have made a strong push to improve their roster this winter. The left-hander had a 5.21 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 118:43 K:BB across 112.1 innings last season.
