2026 Fantasy Outlook
Questions about his hit tool have always followed House around, and those questions won't go away after the third baseman's poor showing during his first stint in the big leagues. House's wRC+ of 56 represented the sixth-lowest mark out of 309 players to accrue at least 250 plate appearances. He was uber-aggressive - which is nothing new for the young infielder - sporting a 57.2 percent swing rate and a whopping 50.7 percent swing rate at first pitches (the league average was 30.1 percent). A 28.5 percent strikeout rate and 2.9 percent walk rate wasn't pretty, and while House did sport a healthy 46.3 percent hard-hit rate, his 4.3 percent barrel rate and 89.8 mph average exit velocity were less impressive. The big power remains, but it's a low probability that he'll get on base enough for it to matter. Working in House's favor is that he won't turn 23 until June, he's a good defender at third base and the Nationals have time to be patient with him. Read Past Outlooks
Keeps slugging Saturday
House went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.
Analysis
The 22-year-old third baseman has been swinging a hot bat to begin spring training. Through four games, House has gone 5-for-11 with two doubles and two homers while posting a 0:3 BB:K. Plate discipline remains a concern after he posted an atrocious 8:78 BB:K in 274 plate appearances during his big-league debut last season, helping drag down his .234/.252/.322 slash line, but House has power potential if he can learn to make more consistent contact.

How does Brady House compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.
* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
2022
House came into 2024 clearly projecting as the Nationals' third baseman of the future and with a chance to reach the majors late in the year. However, his aggressiveness at the plate got exposed in his first run against Triple-A pitching, and now his long-term outlook is less clear. He has all the physical tools required to hit for plus power and play a good third base, so it will just come down to House's hit tool. He has never been mistaken for a patient hitter, but his 28.8 percent strikeout rate and three percent walk rate at Triple-A illustrates a hitter who was overmatched. House doesn't turn 22 until June, so he's still got time to figure things out, but he'll need to greatly improve his swing decisions. He has elite bat speed, but that may have led to him developing bad habits earlier in his career. Jose Tena looks worthy of more playing time this year at third base, so there is potentially a viable contender with House for long-term work at the hot corner in Washington.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Moving to third base
House will be playing third base going forward, Andrew Golden of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis
House was drafted as a shortstop, but the 2021 first-round selection will be developed at the hot corner going forward. In his first full professional season, the 19-year-old posted a .731 OPS over 45 games with three homers and just one stolen base in 2022. House still offers plenty of offensive upside while playing third base, but doesn't project to join the Nationals until the middle of the decade.
