                2025 Fantasy Outlook

Joyce was rusty during spring training, walking nine over 7.1 innings before he was optioned to the minors. He spent several months in Triple-A, but was recalled by Los Angeles in June and deployed in high-leverage immediately. He produced a respectable 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB over 34.2 innings and clocked the fastest pitch in the majors last season at 105.5 miles per hour. Joyce even spent time as the Angels' closer after they traded their veteran relievers at the deadline. He collected four saves in just over one month before a shoulder injury ended his season prematurely. Joyce appeared set to enter 2025 as the Angels' primary closer, but Kenley Jansen is poised to fill that job after signing a one-year contract. Joyce should see occasional save opportunities but is likely to work as the primary setup man if Jansen can remain healthy. Close to throwing
Joyce (shoulder) is expected to begin a throwing progression within one month, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
                  Analysis
Joyce noted Monday that his shoulder is feeling healthy, though he's not yet sure if he'll be a full go by spring training. "It's going great," said Joyce. "I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life. Shoulder feels good. So it's come along better than I could have expected." The team should continue to provide updates on Joyce's status as he makes his way through his throwing progression.

Joyce's velocity is no secret, but he struggled to control his triple-digit fastball last season. He walked 14 over 15.2 innings at Double-A before the Angels fast-tracked him to the majors with a call up in late May. The 23-year-old logged five appearances with Los Angeles and topped out at 103 mph on the radar gun before experienicing ulnar neuritis in his right elbow. A trip to the injured list was necessary and Joyce missed three months of action. The 6-foot-5 right-hander returned in September to appear in seven more contests, finishing the season with a 5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 10:9 K:BB over 10 innings. He also tacked on one win and four holds with his first taste of big-league, high-leverage action. Joyce has the makings of a future closer and could hold some fantasy value even if he's not getting save chances due to his potential to rack up strikeouts. However, if his control issues persist, he may have trouble ascending the Angels' leverage ladder in 2024.
