2026 Fantasy Outlook
Although Zerpa was deployed in the rotation during the minors, he primarily served out of the Royals' bullpen following his major-league debut in 2021. He made just two starts during the 2025 campaign and finished with a 4.18 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 14 holds and a 58:22 K:BB across 64.2 innings. Zerpa was traded to the Brewers in December, and there is an openness to have the 26-year-old southpaw work out of Milwaukee's rotation in 2026. That'll ultimately depend on whether he is fully stretched out during spring training, though he wouldn't provide much fantasy value in strikeouts given his extremely low whiff rate (16.4 percent) and below average chase rate (26.7 percent). That said, Zerpa's 63.7 percent groundall rate ranked in the top one percentile in the majors in 2025, which could translate nicely into low ERA and WHIP numbers in a relief or starting role. Grabs second save
Zerpa earned the save Thursday against the Blue Jays, allowing one hit over a scoreless ninth inning.
Analysis
Zerpa entered the ninth with a one-run lead and had to navigate around a leadoff single to Vladimir Guerrero, but he settled in to secure his second save of the season. Despite the clean inning, the southpaw's overall numbers remain inflated from a rough outing last week in which he allowed four runs, leaving him with a 5.40 ERA across 10 innings.

Drawing trade interest
The Royals have received trade inquiries on Zerpa, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Zerpa had a solid 2024 season in the Royals' bullpen, collecting a 3.86 ERA and 49:19 K:BB over 53.2 regular-season innings. The left-hander came up through the minors as a starting pitcher and made some starts in his first three seasons with the Royals, and Rogers notes that it's possible other teams would want him in that role. No trade appears imminent.
