2026 Fantasy Outlook
Monasterio carved out a nice niche for himself on the Milwaukee bench as someone who can play nearly any position in the field as needed in a pinch, but none of them on a regular basis. He has done little at the plate, but 2025 was his best season by batting average as his line-drive approach found a few gaps allowing him to leg out nine doubles along with his 21 singles. There is not enough bat nor physical tools for this to evolve into an everyday player, even if injuries should cascade on the roster. After establishing himself as a bit of a glue guy in Milwaukee, Monasterio will have a harder time sticking in the majors after being traded to Boston during the offseason. Read Past Outlooks
Slots in at first base
Monasterio started at first base and went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 9-5 win over Minnesota.
Analysis
Monasterio, who stepped in at first base Tuesday when Willson Contreras was removed due to a back issue, started there Wednesday. The three-hit day was the first multi-hit effort of the season for Monasterio, who entered the contest batting .143 (2-for-14) in limited playing time. The Red Sox are off Thursday, which gives Contreras downtime ahead of the four-game set with the Tigers begins Friday.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Monasterio was an unheralded prospect that had a decent debut season in 2023 with a .678 OPS and plus-eight defensive runs saved in 92 games, but he played a lesser role in 2024 with a .575 OPS in 59 contests. The Brewers kept him on the 40-man roster through the non-tender deadline, but he's certainly not guaranteed to retain that spot through the offseason. Even if he sticks around and makes Milwaukee's Opening Day roster, Monasterio isn't likely to have fantasy relevance as a utility bench piece.

Taking outfield reps
Monasterio is taking reps in the outfield in an attempt to increase his positional versatility, according to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe.
Analysis
Monasterio doesn't have much experience in the outfield, as he's played just four innings in left field throughout his career. The Red Sox don't need help in the outfield right now, but trying Monasterio in a new position would provide another path to playing time. Monasterio has played mostly as a second baseman, shortstop and third baseman.
