There was plenty of skepticism surrounding Montgomery when he got the call in July due to his high strikeout rates in the minors. He did not look out of place, however, smacking 21 homers in just 71 games, including 10 long balls in August alone, tying the White Sox rookie record for a single calendar month. After hitting just .215 at the Triple-A level, Montgomery managed a .239 batting average against big-league competition despite a 29.2 K%. Over a larger sample, Montgomery should be expected to fall back in that particular category, which takes away from the appeal of his considerable power. A first-round pick in 2021, the shortstop will be afforded the chance to continue playing every day on the South Side, and presumably with the leash to work through any slumps -- within reason -- as the organization evaluates for the future.
