2026 Fantasy Outlook
The rust was evident with McLain in 2025 after he missed the entire 2024 season with shoulder and rib injuries. He reached 15 homers and 18 steals in 147 games but posted just a .643 OPS, down more than 200 points from his excellent debut with the Reds in 2023. McLain had only one month of the campaign (June) in which he was average or better offensively, as he struck out at a 28.9% clip while the quality of his contact was also severely lacking on the whole. Manager Terry Francona stuck with him, and while that patience did not exactly pay off for the skipper in 2025, it's possible it does in 2026. McLain's 2025 can be considered a partial success in that he stayed on the field for 577 plate appearances, and his defense at second base should afford him more time to figure things out at the plate in Cincinnati.
