Gilbert was part of the return the Giants received from the Mets for Tyler Rogers. Gilbert's minor league vitae is filled with seasons of double-digit walk rates and low strikeout totals, yet he has a career .262 average as a minor league hitter overall and a .238 average in 627 plate appearances in Triple-A between the two organizations. Gilbert received 39 games of playing time with the Giants after the trade and did not show much to change his projected career path of a fourth outfielder type. Gilbert should have some opportunities to force his way into more playing time if his bat can do more, but his numbers above Double-A ball have not been terribly impressive overall to lead us to believe there is more in the tank for this 25-year old outfielder.
