Shawver was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his pitching elbow shortly after exiting a May 29 start and had Tommy John surgery in June. Prior to being shelved with the elbow injury, Smith-Shawver made nine starts for Atlanta this season, going 3-2 while registering a 3.86 ERA and 42:21 K:BB across 44.1 innings.
